CLIENT: Progress Music Academy
LOCATION: The Crescent Theatre, Birmingham
The Progress Music Academy (PMA) end-of-year concert has become one of our favourite annual events to cover. Every year it’s a joy to be part of the excitement, capturing the talent and energy of their students.
Our brief is simple: photograph the performances of individuals and groups, then provide PMA with a secure online gallery. From there, participants can purchase digital downloads or prints — similar to how we handle sporting events like football or gymnastics.
PMA is a community-focused music school teaching singing, guitar, bass, drums, piano, and more. Their annual concert takes place over a series of fun-packed evenings, and this year it was held at the Crescent Theatre, just down the road from their Birmingham studios. It’s always a privilege to document these performances, especially with so many first-time performers taking to the stage. A friendly smile and a little chat go a long way to helping nervous students feel at ease.
Space is often tight during the concerts, so we move carefully to capture a variety of angles without disrupting the performance or the audience. There are always laughs, happy tears, and moments of pure joy — making it such a rewarding event to photograph.
Over the years, PMA and their students have given fantastic feedback on the photos, and we always look forward to coming back for the next concert.
